Worth Repeating - July 12, 2017

Hebrews 4: 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (NIV)

We can’t lead others to the throne of grace unless we’ve walked that pathway ourselves.*

“Approach the throne of grace with confidence” sounds presumptuous. For most of us, feelings of shame and unworthiness accompany our confession and repentance. But do we take it too far? God didn’t go to so much trouble on our behalf only to have us be afraid of him.

There’s a difference between confident and cocky. Our confidence is tempered with respect and awe and made possible through the blood of Jesus Christ. Because of him, we can be confident that we will be welcome in the Father’s presence. We are assured that we will receive mercy and grace in our time of need.

So we now know the attitude we should have when we come before the throne of grace; and we know who to thank for making it possible; but let’s not forget the first step: approaching the throne. We need to be proactive in coming into God’s presence – to tell him our needs, to thank him for his blessings, to intercede for others and, above all, to know him. Approach his throne confidently and often.

God yearns to be known. But he wants to be sought after by those who would know him.*
